Recovery Mode is a separate boot environment on your Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra that lets you perform maintenance tasks without loading Android โ wiping cache, factory resetting, applying updates, and troubleshooting. This guide shows you how to enter Recovery Mode, what each menu option does, and how to use it safely.
What is Recovery Mode?
Recovery Mode is a lightweight environment stored on a separate partition. It runs independently of the main Android system, so you can use it even when Android will not boot. It is your go-to tool for fixing software problems, clearing corrupted caches, and performing a factory reset when you are locked out.
How to Enter Recovery Mode
- Power off the Galaxy S26 Ultra completely. If it is frozen, hold Power + Volume Down for 20 seconds to force it off.
- Connect the phone to a PC or charger via USB-C (newer Samsung models require this to reach Recovery).
- Press and hold Power + Volume Up together.
- Release both buttons when the Samsung logo appears.
- The Android Recovery menu loads after a few seconds.
If you see an Android robot lying down with "No Command," that is normal โ press and hold Power, then tap Volume Up once to reveal the menu. Full details in our No Command fix guide.
Navigating the Recovery Menu
The touchscreen does not work in Recovery Mode. Use the hardware buttons:
- Volume Up / Volume Down โ move the highlight up and down
- Power button โ select the highlighted option
Recovery Menu Options Explained
Reboot system now โ exits Recovery and boots normally into Android.
Reboot to bootloader โ restarts into Download Mode / bootloader.
Apply update from ADB โ sideload an official update package from a PC using ADB.
Apply update from SD card โ install an update from external storage.
Wipe data/factory reset โ erases all user data and restores factory settings. Use this if you forgot your lock (see our hard reset guide).

Mount /system โ mounts the system partition for advanced operations.
View recovery logs โ shows logs for debugging.
Power off โ shuts down the device.
Common Recovery Mode Tasks
Wipe Cache Partition (Safe โ No Data Loss)
Corrupted cache causes lag, crashes, and post-update bugs. Clearing it is safe:
- In Recovery, select Wipe cache partition.
- Confirm with Yes.
- Select Reboot system now.
Factory Reset (Erases Data)
- Select Wipe data/factory reset.
- Confirm with Factory data reset.
- Reboot when complete.
Remember the FRP warning: after a factory reset, the phone asks for the previously synced Google account. Know those credentials or see our FRP bypass guide.
Stock Recovery vs TWRP
The Galaxy S26 Ultra ships with stock recovery, which offers only basic options (wipe, update, reboot). If you install TWRP custom recovery, you get a full touch interface with backup/restore, ZIP flashing, partition management, and much more. Stock recovery is enough for basic maintenance; TWRP is needed for custom ROMs and advanced modding.
How to Exit Recovery Mode
- Select Reboot system now and press Power, OR
- Hold Power + Volume Down for 10 seconds to force restart.
Troubleshooting
Cannot enter Recovery: Fully power off first, connect USB-C, then hold Power + Volume Up until the logo shows.
"No Command" screen: Hold Power, tap Volume Up once โ see our No Command guide.
Recovery menu corrupted or missing: Flash stock firmware via Odin to restore stock recovery โ see our flash tool guide.
Phone reboots instead of entering Recovery: You released the buttons too early or held them too long. Release Power when the logo appears but keep holding Volume Up.
