If your Windows PC does not detect the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra when you plug it in, you need to install the correct USB driver. Without the driver, tools like Odin, ADB and Fastboot will not communicate with your device.

Why You Need Samsung USB Drivers

The Samsung USB driver allows your PC to recognize the Galaxy S26 Ultra in different connection modes:

  • MTP Mode โ€” for transferring files, photos and videos between phone and PC
  • Download Mode โ€” required for flashing firmware via Odin
  • ADB/Fastboot Mode โ€” for ADB commands, sideloading APKs, logcat debugging
  • UART/Diagnostic Mode โ€” for advanced repair, EFS backup and network unlocking

Which Driver to Download

1. Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones โ€” Standard driver package. Supports MTP, Download Mode and ADB. File: SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones_v1.7.65.exe (~40 MB). Supports Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, 11.

2. Samsung Smart Switch โ€” Installing Smart Switch automatically installs ADB and CDC drivers. Useful if the standalone driver does not work.

How to Install โ€” Method 1: Standalone Driver

  1. Download SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones from Samsung Developer site.
  2. Close all Samsung tools (Odin, Smart Switch).
  3. Run installer as Administrator.
  4. Follow wizard โ€” Next โ†’ Next โ†’ Install โ†’ Finish.
  5. Restart your PC.
  6. Connect your Galaxy S26 Ultra via USB cable.

How to Install โ€” Method 2: Via Smart Switch

  1. Download Smart Switch from samsung.com/smartswitch.
  2. Install โ€” it automatically installs Samsung CDC, MTP and ADB drivers.
  3. Restart PC and connect phone.

How to Install โ€” Method 3: Manual via Device Manager

  1. Connect phone via USB.
  2. Open Device Manager (right-click Start โ†’ Device Manager).
  3. Find device with yellow warning icon.
  4. Right-click โ†’ Update Driver โ†’ Browse my computer for drivers.
  5. Point to Samsung USB driver folder. Click Next.

Verifying the Driver Works

MTP: Connect normally, set USB mode to File Transfer. Phone appears in File Explorer.

Download Mode: Boot into Download Mode (Vol Down + Vol Up + USB). Odin shows blue/green box in ID:COM.

ADB: Enable USB Debugging, connect, run adb devices in Command Prompt. Should show serial number.

Troubleshooting

PC does not detect phone: Try different USB cable (original Samsung). Use USB 2.0 port on back of PC.

Odin shows empty ID:COM: Download Mode driver not installed. Manually update via Device Manager.

ADB says no devices: Enable USB Debugging. Revoke USB debugging authorizations and reconnect.

Driver fails on Windows 11: Disable Driver Signature Enforcement temporarily (Startup Settings โ†’ press 7).
